BOER GOATS & MEAT GOATS
We raise Boer goats and of course, goats for goat meat sales from the farm. Our goats are raised from
healthy, disease free stock. We have added some of the best genetics, and then bred for different goals.
We have percentage Boers, Full blood Boers and commercial and show stock. We have bred dairy does to
full blood Boer bucks and we have bred full blood Boer does to full blood Boer bucks. We have purchased
semen from impressive bucks and collect and market semen from our bucks here.
We do have a limited amount of 4-H wethers for sale each year. We do give a 4-H discount.
The most important thing in raising our goats is health.
We are constantly watching our goats, looking at them, petting
them, and caring for them.
Lynne spends time with all of them, every single day. This is
important in noticing just the slightest change in behavior. All
of our goats are extremely friendly. They are fed the best
organic hay and minerals. Fecals are done on a regular basis.
They are moved constantly to fresh pasture every two weeks
from spring until winter. They are never on the same pasture
twice in a year/season.
4-H wethers are disbudded and banded. If a 4-H member has never raised a goat
before, then they must sign a paper that states how to care for and feed their animal.
From worming to nutritional requirements, and how to raise a healthy goat.
Because this goat is a reflection of our hard work here, this is extremely important.
Nothing is more disappointing than seeing a goat that didn't grow much, because it
wasn't fed properly or had parasites. And 4-H'ers new to the world of goats may not
know the proper care and feeding of their goat. Lynne is a 4-H leader and is here for
questions and help. From basic care, feed questions, trimming of feet, worming and
how to clip and show your animal.
It is about having fun, and sometimes that is the pat of the 4-H experience that is
neglected the most. And raising goats is FUN!
We supplement or even bottle feed the 4-H wether prospects to have them be
extremely friendly.
We have used a number of different bucks for
different reasons. To develop length, or put
on chest and hind end. To add more muscle
or even bulk. Strength in legs. Strength in
parasite resistance. Strength in hoof health.
And personality. Friendliness.
All of these aspects are important.
We have show stock here, and show lines.
We do not actively show our goats at this
time.
This has been our choice fro multiple
reasons. And our first and most important
has been our closed herd policy. Any new
stock is isolated for 6 months and tested for
TB , Brucellosis, and CAE and Johnes. We
have never had CL here at the farm.
We have registered stock with the International Boer Goat Association, and the United
States Boer Goat Association. Not all of our percentages are registered, since we also
have a commercial meat herd.
We have a limited number of Full blood Boer buck kids for sale each year. We try to limit
the potential future head bucks to the best we have. This is extremely important to us,
as we have seen many head bucks out there that should have been on the table
instead of the breeding pen.
To us, raising animals the right way is to give
them the best forage and organic foods as
possible. Just as it is important for us to eat
the best, healthiest food, it is for our animals.

If animals are fed the best food, they are
overall healthier and are also healthier for us
to eat.

I wouldn't want to eat a pig that is standing in
its own excrement, and I don't want to drink
the milk or eat the meat of animal that was
grain fed while standing in mud pens and
pastures. When animals eat what nature
intended them to eat, they have a higher
parasite resistance, a longer life, better milk
and better tasting products. They are happier
and therefore, we are happier, because we
are doing the best that we can do. And what
is better than doing your best?
